In Focus II: Steve Reich@75
Saturday 2nd June 2012 at 7:30 pm
Following his visit in November, we return our attention to the music of the legendary composer, Steve Reich. Hot on the heels of their staggering success at the BBC Proms, their sell-out performances at London's Southbank Centre, and their five star review in 'The Independent', we are thrilled to welcome the Colin Currie Group and Synergy Vocals to perform Steve Reich's landmark work, 'Drumming', alongside a selection of the composer's smaller works for percussion, keyboard and voices.
Praised by the composer for producing arguably the finest performances of the piece in its now legendary history, the Colin Currie Group and Synergy Vocals combine dazzling virtuosity and spellbinding precision to produce an enthralling and mesmerising musical experience.
In addition to 'Drumming', this concert offers a rare opportunity to hear a selection of Reich's smaller multi-percussion works, including the beautifully soporific 'Music for Mallet Instruments, Voices and Organ' and the breathtakingly energising 'Nagoya Marimbas'. A genuinely rare - indeed, unmissable - concert experience at the Wathen Hall.
